Quilt show inspirations

Our local quilt club had its annual Tote & Gloat show on Saturday so this post contains a lot of photos of quilts that inspire me. It's a full day with a huge show and tell to start - quilts are shown on stage and then later hung for further enjoyment. 

After show and tell we can wander to look at all the gorgeous quilts - this includes the challenges and other displays from invited groups - and to shop of course. 
In the afternoon we have a speaker. This year we were very lucky to have Rachel Daisy speak to us - find her blog HERE. These are some of the quilts she brought to show. 

Ticket holders are able to show any quilts completed over the last 12 months since the previous show. I didn't have enough time to attach a hanging sleeve to this one (completed in January)

But I was able to show my quilted face (completed in December)

I love quilts with a special NZ flavour : above is "Tiki love" by Wilma Minnee. Won 2nd prize for the "Heart" challenge. "Hearts of Nature" by Kay McDonnell below won viewers' choice for the "Heart" challenge, including my vote : 

This next one was made by my good friend Debbie Jacques, and took first place in the "Heart" challenge : "Pieces of the heart"

Another good friend, Marion Ashley, took first place as a First Time Entry for the fabric challenge :

The quilts that follow were hung without labels and I'm sorry I don't know the makers. If you know and tell me, I will credit. Simple piecing made special with great colour choices :

I have a great love of applique. Whilst talking on stage, the maker of the quilt below mentioned Laundry Basket Quilts - see their website with patterns HERE. Not sure if an actual pattern of theirs or inspired by.

Quilt show inspirations

I belong to our city quilt guild Rose City Quilters and every 2 years we do a show of what's been made in the intervening years. The only quilt I could have shown (but didn't deliver in time - sigh) was this which I completed in April last year :

At the last exhibition I had made 5 quilts and was able to show 3 of them, and one won a merit ribbon! Obviously quilting has taken a back seat due to my other art journaling and mixed media projects. I got this far with my next quilt top by July this year but it hasn't progressed because I felt like it needs another row down the right to get the proportions right.

Having photographed it on my line just now for this post, I'm not sure. Perhaps I can explore this over the next couple of days....I'd love to know what you think. Actually, as I went through my photographs from the day I found this : 

Several years ago club members made A4 sized quilts to encourage viewers of exhibitions to look not touch - that's my one ;-) Anyway, these are the quilts from the exhibition that I REALLY loved. Please click on any photo to see it larger.

Quilt Show Inspiration

Just had a lovely weekend which included quilts and family together ♥ On Saturday, it was our quilt club's annual Tote & Gloat day. The morning is a couple of hours of people showing their quilts, then there's lunch and a speaker in the afternoon. This year it was Lynette Anderson from Australia and she was lovely sharing her journey and her design ideas. All around that there are shops, raffles, and other displays to look at. This is the show through my eyes. Click on any photo to see it larger. We arrived early so we could do some shopping - and there was lots to choose from

I only purchased some yellow fabric to tone with these poppy fabrics for my next quilt

We had to vote for our choice in both the club challenges. These were my favourites from the Trippy Triangles challenge : "Varlet Farm in Summer" by Erilyn McMillan

There was also a button challenge. This wasn't an entry, but so cool to have on display

Each year I'm interested to see what inspires me most. Unfortunately I can't credit these since they are shown and then hung without labels. 
I love applique, colour, quilts that are pretty, and quilts with simple but effective designs for 'stash-busting' (I need to start using up my rather large collection of fabrics!)....or some combination of those things ♥

There were several extra exhibition displays this year. I'm just going to share a couple. This was the Orange challenge from Aotearoa Quilters.

and I've been thinking about combining my love of faces with quilting so also inspired by this
