I love art journalling

Last year I was blog-hopping and started looking at lovely art journalling blogs. In Aug 2009 I took the plunge and did my first art journalling course online with Kelly Kilmer : A Prompt a Day
This is the cover of that first journal - I altered an old Hans Anderson fairy tale book that I got in a second-hand book sale for about $2. The pages were nice and thick, and it kept me going until the end of November.
And this is one of the pages in it....it was great to use both paint and collage elements, and on many of the pages the original story print showed through which added a nice extra dimension.
When that one was finished, I decided to do one celebrating the month of December. This was inspired by Ali Edwards and her December Daily albums.

Journal from a Trade Aid shop - already covered in fabric so I just had to add some glitter to make it Christmassy :-)

Had lots of fun with this one - black pages sometimes left as-is, or painted, or collaged. And a nice journal to look back on because I did a page for each day of December and it captures all that we were doing with normal school routines, as well as special parties and what Christmas means to me.
And then it was January 2010, and I just couldn't stop! Kelly offered a new class (still open)   A Life Made By Hand - I started my new journal on 10 Jan 2010

This class is using all paper collage (no paint), and there are 181 journalling prompts.
The other participants have been really supportive, and Kelly is awesome with her comments and availability to answer any questions as they come up. Was only going to do this until the end of June, but since she has left her class open, I have started a new journal ;-)

This journal is called "Fly". It is spiral bound and larger than my last : 10" x 11 1/2". Was supposed to be a photo album, and there is a gap in the middle of the cover as you can see above. The blue butterfly that you can see in the cover top left, is actually from the page behind peeking through (that page below)

I haven't journalled on these yet, but I think the one below will be about feeling exhausted after you've had a day-long migraine!

I will post more of my pages as I collage them. And I have lots more fabulous art journallers to share with you, but will leave that for a later post.
Thanks for stopping by :-)

  1. Wow! Congrats on your new blog from a fellow ALMBH student. I love your work, very diverse and lovely. I completely relate to that spread where you speak about just chosing one kind of art. I could never choose either, that's why I fell in love with mixed media and art journaling, now all my loves can just be mixed and matched. Good luck on the blog!
